Considering a few locations

samich

Hello I just moved to Rio a couple days ago and am very excited to explore the city! I will be working in the Centro area and need to find lodging ASAP, as I'm living in a hotel. I'm juggling between the following three areas:

Copacabana

Botafogo

Flamengo

I desire living by the beach and nightlife and hope for plenty of outdoor activities and green space, while considering price.
In addition, somebody I met on the beach today recommended Santa Teresa and Gloria, so these are now in consideration as well.

Any input on any of these places would be appreciated! Or if I'm overlooking other areas, let me know!

Also, I'm eager to meet friends, so if anybody knows any specific good bars/clubs in these areas, please share. Would love to meet up!

Obrigado!

Hi Samich,

On behalf of the entire 做厙輦⑹-blog Team, welcome on board and welcome to Brazil. While Botafogo is a rather upscale neighborhood it will probably be less expensive than Copacabana. The beach there is also spectacular, shops are everywhere in it is so convenient I'm sure you'd be very happy there.

Hi WJ -

Thanks for that! I actually ran from Centro to Urca today and saw the beaches of Botafogo and Flamengo. Flamengo seemed much nicer and livelier. I can't speak to the neighborhoods within, but don't know if the beach is representative of the respective neighborhoods. Any thoughts on that? Tomorrow I hope to explore the neighborhoods, but the beaches are so inviting!!

Thanks again!

James

I'm not terribly familiar with Flamengo, but Botafogo not only has a nice beach, but it is also full of great shops, restaurants and other amenities as well as being a pretty posh neighborhood.

Copacabana, I think you're just going to end up paying a lot more just for the name. If you're into being able to brag, "I live in Copacabana" guess that's ok too.

haha - I got it. Thanks again for the tip. Based on what you said, I like the sound of Botafogo already!

Tudo de bom,
