Recently moved to São Paulo - looking to make new friends!

Jls436

Hello all!

I recently relocated with work from Cincinnati, OH to São Paulo and am now living in the Jardins area (near O Malleys for all you Irish pub lovers...). I have made some local friends already and am actively learning Portuguese, but would love to hear any advice or experiences you have in getting acclimated (good restaurants, bars, etc). Let me know if you're interested in grabbing a pint sometime!

Hey, as a fellow Filipino in SP it is hard to get around alone without knowing some Portuguese. I am currently self studying through a Pt coursebook so I can be more confident walking the streets of this large city. Hope you enjoy your stay in SP

James

Speaking Portuguese anywhere in Brazil is essentially important since you'll find very few people anywhere that speak English with any kind of fluency.

You can't get through most day-to-day situations without Portuguese. One big advantage of learning at least basic conversation in Portuguese is that you'll find it much easier to make new friends here. Brazilian are very impressed when a foreigner shows enough respect for the population to try and learn at least some of their language. It will score you lots of points here.

Hey girls, I'm brazilian and I'm fluent in english. I can help you with get around here, let me know if you need anything.
Welcome to this crazy city!

If you know Portuguese, it´s easy to get around. In some sense, for most Brazilians an American/Canadian/Mexican/etc is a Brazilian that did not learnt Portuguese yet. If you don´t, you´ll be likely get lost.

I´m dating a girl that wants to learn English, so, I want to meet with foreigners in São Paulo. We can speak in both languages, one helps the other.

AndKen

By the way, travelling to countries where you don´t speak anything of the official language of the natives is a really bad idea.
