A big welcome to my adopted city of Medellin where I have called home for almost 15 years.

As for recommending a hotel or hostal yes there are many, so many have opened in the past 5-7 years that you can't keep up so..............all depends what your travel style is, what kind of visit/stay is this for you, you want to be in the center of the 'action' or more laid back.

Just one example is Hostal Jardin de Provenza, great spot as you on the hot spot nightlife street in Provenza but with hordes of Passport Bros around and it's loud/party scene, so again what are you looking for.

I have all but stopped visiting Poblado, other than my dentist is located in this area, for the past decade but it is top spot for tourists.

Over the past 5 years or so the nearby Laureles has become very popular, aside from 70 street area with bars and restaurants you can find some good hotels/hostal nestled in a residential street that is relaxing and quiet, the opposite of Park Lleras/Provenza hot spot.

Hope this helps.

It does. Thank you. Not a tourist. Looking for ideas on initial first week's stay as I get my bearings and find a place for longer term. No need for gringolandias...room, private bath, clean, safe as safe is, and close to food, drinks, and shops for basic needs on arrival. Ecuador for 10+ years with locals. Just landing in country cold and no contacts...arriving Friday a.m. B

I hear you as I did the same back in 2010 on my first weeks/months long visits to Medellin.

Curios as to why your considering leaving Ecuador, I think I understand why but would like your take on it.

BTW my passion is road trips in my car, always starting and ending at my home in Medellin and I do these road trips many times each year and just coincidentally I have explored Ecuador on a few of these road trips, so am curios as to where you were located?

Looks like your from Alaska, might be an assumption on my part, I hail from Huntington Beach, California so love the perfect, perfect for me anyway, climate we have here in Medellin.

So may I suggest that you use Booking.com as a good resource to find a small hotel/hostal that fits your style and budget. From what you mentioned perhaps Laureles is a consideration or even a bit further out such as Sabaneta.

I have lived on the northern end of the Medellin / Aburra valley for 8 years, a smallish pueblo with great tranquil neighbors and friends and would not change it for anything. Takes me 40 minutes to drive into centro when needed or what I usually do is park at a local mall and use the Medellin metro to get around as traffic sucks in the center of Medellin.

My point is to be patient and check around the various communs/barrios/municipalities/neighborhoods and find a place that suits you.

Godspeed!
