Stephen and Ramona

Here in West Virginia its not uncommon to have a buck knife on your hip. Is this practice accepted in ecuador?

I am not sure about knives however there are severe restrictions on owning guns.

I haven't seen it but I haven't seen any deer either. Maybe outside the city.

In the rural parts, many carry a machete instead of a buck knife.Ìý These people are like surgeons with machetes.Ìý It's incredible watching them use them.Ìý Machetes come in various sizes here.

I would think in Quito and other big cities you'd get weird looks and it would get stolen/pick pocketed eventually.Ìý I wouldn't want to flash around something that valuable.Ìý I saw the same pocket knife I own for sale here, and it cost more than double what I paid in the states.

The knife I'm referring to comes folded in a snapped sheath that is strung through the belt. Pretty hard to pick pocket but I suppose it could happen. Thanks for the input.

I've seen deer in the Antisana reserve and Cotopaxi NP. Hunting is prohibited there though.
