What is the best phone to use there? I am thinking of getting vonage phones. Do they work there? Or I heard some people get magic jack phones and bring them with them to Ecuador. I love this blog its very helpful.

I'll assume that you mean a phone service for calling back to the US, or to get calls from friends/relatives there.

I used Magic Jack while there and it functioned just as advertised (and it was very easy to set up). I can't vouch for Vonage, but I understand it is similar.

I'm using MagicJack + on the apartment landline phone thru the internet on my laptop.
No problems, no charges on my phone bill, and folks can call me on my home phone number.
