Vibe for young people living in Mauritius!?

6mboyjam

Hi all. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Im a 27 year old South African and my brother and I have decided to quit our jobs and kick things off in Mauritius.

Iv read a lot about living in the country but have found that a lot of information is quite old (with so much changing so fast in the country, this info can therefore be outdated).

One thing I have not been able to find out too much information about is what the life is for young folk.

We are 25 and 27 years old. We like to work hard but also play hard. My single biggest worry about Mauritius is that it might become quite sleepy if you are someone who likes to always be out and about and doing new and exciting things.

The outdoor life is of course a huge pull factor with surfing, Scuba, trail running, and kite surfing.

Also, in real terms - are there many young °µÍø½ûÇøs on the island (young as in not married with kids etc).

We both make friends very easily and make the  most of every situation

- just would like a snnapshot of what that scene is like.

Awesome - thanks - and when I arrive ill be sure to try and link up with many of you. J

Hello,

if you want to know more about events such as cultural, festivals, music, cinema, art and more you should have a look at the local °°¿´ÜÉ website.

I think Grand Baie would be the area for you both, yes a tourist area but lots of clubs, bars and nightlife :)

Grand Baie has everything that you want :)

Have friends of all ages to socialise with too - you never know who you may meet at an older friends BBQ ;);)

Good luck

6mboyjam

Yeah, I think Grand Baie would suit us best. we are coming over in a couple weeks and will be staying there. I love mixing with people  of all ages, just wanted to know if there was a slightly younger scene.

Thanks for the help! :-)

6mboyjam

Awesome bro! That's the kind of attitude I like. We must keep in touch. When you planning on moving over?

MrOli3000

Hey guys, I'm the brother! I was wondering if it's feasible to setup shop in cyber city and live in Grande Baie. (Daily commute in mind)

Also, what's the vibe with transport? Too much rain for motorbikes? Roads a tight squeeze for cars?

6mboyjam

Someone mentioned to me that Cyber City was a dog show i terms of traffic. What about offices on Grand Baie beach (shoes optional)

(serious note)Looks like we're in similar scenarios, so maybe we can touch base in Grand Baie and share our experience/s.

from where I can meet English speaking people in grand bay? I came here two month back. I want frieends to hangout with on Friday. Any get together point? Or like that?

Jangita

Hi

Yes it happens the first few months. Making friends is hard especially if you speak english and are a foreigner and can easily drive you crazy! It took me 3 months to know anybody.

Search for -20.006751, 57.557131 in google maps.

There is a restaurant called selfish at Pointe aux Cannoneers, royal road. It is just after grand baie. It's open from 4pm to late on Mondays and Fridays, and 5pm to late on all other days. Has good english speaking people both local and foreign and nice ambience.

Hi, I'm very much in the same boat as you guys were a few years ago. Looking to move in January '18. How have you found the vibe for younger people? Where did you end up settling? Where would you recommend to stay in the West (Black River area and surrounds). Ciao
