Dear Jackie

Reopening of frontiers could be by end of August 2021. This is due to the fact that the vaccination campaign will not be completed as per the planned schedule, and the quarantine capacity of hotels is nearly saturated, and is being exclusively being kept to cater for the local case of COVID-19, which, unfortunately, is still on the rise.

However, you could try your luck by sending a letter together with supporting authentic documents of the health status of your mom to the Prime Minister's Office, and there could be some sympathetic consideration.

I wish you all the best.

Hi Vayid

Thank you for replying and the useful information.  It is so frustrating not being able to be there with my mum. It has been so hard to deal with everything being so far away. Fortunately I was able to call for an ambulance for her and get her admitted to a clinic as no one else there could go to her due to lockdown. The doctors would not discharge her unless she had a carer so  I had to arrange for her to go to a nursing home as the clinic bill was increasing to a ridiculous amount. I was very lucky to have somehow picked a home managed by a family who had relocated to Mauritius from England. I am now so desperate to be there. I will contact the PM office as my last resort. Thank you again.

HI

So it seems borders wil open on 15th of July. I just want to clarify:

- Once the borders are open, I can travel to Mauritius, and ad a vaccinated person, I can stay in one of the "safe" hotels for 14 days. I can't leave the hotel, but I can leave the room, use hotel facilities and even the beach.
Is this correct?

- Question is: what happens after the 14th day? Do I have to leave the country or if my PCR is negative, can I move to a different hotel or rent a house?

My plan is to stay on tourist visa initially, until I figure everything out and find a place to stay. Then I would rent a house and apply for premium visa. I would like to stay for 1 year or more.

Is this possible after 15th of July or do I have to wait until 1st of October, when all restrictions will be removed?

I don't want to travel to Mauritius just for 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance!

as i understand it, you can move where you like after the 14 days so long as there are no positive cases in the hotel you are staying at and the final PCR test you take is negative (assuming you dont need any other visas, etc)

however if ANYONE in the hotel posts a positive test (and your own final test is negative) then as i understand it, you can go onto another place to stay - but you will have to self isolate for a further 7 days.

That said, this is my interpretation of things. you might want to read the full protocols slides yourself here to see if you agree.....

Hi there.  I have read the latest news flash from different sources.  Interesting as I am in a similar situation as yourself.

That is correct -  as quoted:
The island nation said it will be opening in phases during 2021: the first phase, from 15 July to 30 September, will enable vaccinated travellers to enjoy a resort holiday, with access to on-site facilities including the swimming pool and beach.
Unquote.

Your 2nd point:
Quote:
Guests staying in Mauritius for more than 14 days who test negative on each of their PCR tests will be able to leave their resort and explore the island’s attractions.
UnQuote.

I would think it is logical to think that on day 14 you can leave and stay somewhere else - as long you have made prior arrangements for day 15 onwards until the end of your 60 or 90 day stay.

As to your Premium visa application this is done online this link will help:

Am sure someone will reply or confirm at some stage very soon.

In the meantime - Stay safe everyone.

Regards
Rick

the only exception to the above being ...IF any member of staff or any guest at the hotel tests positive, then you are expected to self isolate for a further 7 days after you leave the hotel. woulda hoped the odds of that are small though if all staff and guests are vaccinated.

Ok I see, thanks!
