Can a foreigner work sales in Indonesia

Mark Prigozhin

Hello everyone. I hope you are doing great and I hope everything is going great in your life.

My name is Mark and I am a 18 year old Albanian guy who has only one dream. To work in Indonesia and in the city of Jakarta.

Indonesia is a great country which has never failed to steal my heart and it still does strongly. I have 3 years of Sales experience and my educational background is a high school diploma. I would like to ask is it legally possible for me to work there and if its not then what other way I can do to live in Indonesia.

Please if anyone could help me, I would appreciate it because I really need someone's help. Thank you!

I know several foreigners who sell local products all over the world for local companies.

It's clearly possible, but I have no idea about the requirements

Mark Prigozhin

Thanks! But in your knowledge, since I have high school education. Do you think I better take Interships since its more easier when it comes to getting KITAS or it's ok to still apply for jobs.

Fred

Applying is not an issue.

If you get a job, your employer looks after immigration requirements.

Mark. Fred is being unusually diplomatic in his reply. Frankly as an 18 year old Albanian I really don't think you've got a gnats chance in hell of getting a legal job in sales unless you specialise in a specific area of industry where Indonesian nationals are in short supply. At your age that's unlikely.

Your only option, which I don't recommend or indeed commend, (excuse the alliteration) and having read examples on this Forum, is to apply to one of the 'Boiler Room' operations that exist throughout Jakarta. Apparently they'll even pay your airfare!

I'm a fluffy bunny

Probably true

They do, but they also get raided from time to time.

Not a great idea to take them up on any offers you might see.

Mark Prigozhin

@Lotus Eater I believe Fred is doing its best to help dear. And he is not a lawyer but rather than suggesting me illegal work, is there any other option like studying at a International University in Indonesia, maybe I might have the chance to enter job market?

Lotus Eater

@Mark Prigozhin

I can't see any problem with you studying at a University provided you have the funds to support yourself (without working) for what would be a multi year course. The learned institution would probably assist with the relevant visa documentation needed.

Mark Prigozhin

Yeah I do have the funds for sure. But I am worried about what happens after graduation, does the Indonesia allow fresh foreign graduates to work in Indonesia after studying in one of their universities. Because that's the most important thing.

Thank you.

I don't know the answer to that one but here in the UK graduating students can work for a period of time after graduation. That said the rules and regulations are fluid and constantly changing.

Your best bet is to email the university of your choice and check out the Indonesian Immigration website.

Thank you so much 😊
