Student STVP about to expire, apply for LTVP (or) wait for my S pass?

Kapil Ramnani

My current situation,

I was a student whose student pass got cancelled on Nov 1st 2024 as I got my e-degree, I am currently on STVP and it's valid till 2nd Feb, 2025.

I currently have an offer from a startup and they're ready to sponsor my S pass (but the company strength is only 3 SG citizens and 1 EP holder, others working remotely).

At the moment, they are currently looking into my S pass situation as there is some quota situation (min. 10 or 13 SG employees needed).

I have the option to apply for my LTVP (1 year validity) too if the S pass doesn't work-out as I want to stay in SG but when to apply is the question.

My main conern is on the timelines,

  1. If I apply for LTVP, it goes under processing, then at the same time, my employer applies for S pass, what happens then? If S pass doesn't work out, does that affect my LTVP application? Whereas if my S pass approves, what happens to my LTVP? Basically, can these applications be parallely processed?
  2. As my STVP expiration date closes in and if either of these applications take time to process, do I have to exit SG? I want to avoid that at all costs!!

I'm just thinking, it would be safe to apply for my LTVP as it may take 2-3 weeks and with CNY around the corner, I hope I can get it before that and secure myself but at the same time, should I wait for my employer to get back to me regarding the S pass situation? Time is of the essence for me

Would be really grateful for the assistance and guidance here, thank you!!

Depending on the type, LTVP applications could be handled by ICA or MoM, S-Pass always by MoM.

If they are at different agencie, the aplications will not affect each other and can run in parallel.

If your STVP runs out (and you cannot get an extension - from the agency that issued it, was that ICA or MoE in your case?), then you must leave Singapore. Overstaying is a major offense that will cancel all your applications and likely remove your possibility for a future in Singapore!

STVP was automatically issued to us by our college once our student pass got over and as per instructions from our college, we could apply for our LTVP

Not sure about any agencies involved here, only ICA for LTVP and I guess ICA itself issues us our STVP (but not sure)

And yes, I'm fully aware of overstaying and I wouldn't be doing that, mostly everyone's recommending me to apply for LTVP first to safeguard myself and the pass can be done later
