Newbie wanting to retire to Thailand

AmandaFlo

Hi all

I'm a 68 year old lady, still active (sounds like a dating profile - it isn't!) at the moment.

Retried police office and local government officer. I've been retired for coming up to three years.

I've contacted a few retirement villages in Chiang-Mai, Pattaya and Hua Hin.

I really like the idea of a village with a community. I don't need a huge amount of space, a one bedroom space with an outside area.

I plan to visit in February with a view to making the move in the next two years.

I don't really want a place in the middle of a big city, but quite like the idea of living just outside.

Any advice please, gratefully received.

TIA

You might want to reconsider Chiangmai

the air pollution is terrible there 4-5 month a year (google air pollution thailand).

In fact its bad in many cities in thailand a fact

many tourists dont realize.

Dont buy any property straight away best to rent to start with.

Why Chiang Mai? Visit there but don't live there unless you want the irritation that comes with it.

Bigrad Wolf

Avoid visiting Chiang Mai from January to April. Visitation time there is from May to Dec.

Where are good alternative to Chiang Mai for mountains?

I live in Krabi. The mountains here are different. Limestone monolith things that jut right out of the ground. Stunning scenery. Beaches "mountains" and fresh air

Newbie wanting to retire to Thailand

I'm asking for advice. I would like to retire in Thailand. I'm unsure if I'll be able to afford the expenses. I have been looking at several locations, but recently they opened a Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic in Pattaya which as a disabled veterans is making me lean to that local if the 做厙輦⑹s believe I can afford. I am looking for their opinion since I do not have a lot after provides funds for my adult children. I do not have a lot in the saved or invested approximately $30,000.00 in the bank with a month pension of $5000.00. As a single male will I be able to afford to retire and live in Thailand. Please response, to help my decision. Thank you all in advance.

Hi there Coltonholbrook28, and welcome to the 做厙輦⑹.com Thailand forum.

With a pension of $5,000 US/mnth, you would have absolutely no problem affording to live in most any SEA country.

Take a look at this thread for replies from other 做厙輦⑹s currently living in Thailand.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any further questions you might have by visiting the forum's main page and opening a new topic for discussion.

The best.. That's up to you. For your first time in Thailand I would stick to Ao Nang.. Until you get bored of lots of tourists.. High tourist prices and the traffic mess. But... It's you best chance to meet new people... And get a feel for the area.

I lived in Krabi town now.. Hard-core Thai area. West of Ao Nang is Khlong Muang... Beautiful.. Quiet.. Too quiet? Up to you
