Sending yourself money while in VN

qnbui

So I tried to test send myself money now that I'm living in VN and ran into a couple of hiccups. I had set up accounts with Wise and Share Money. I've never used Wise before but many YouTubers recommend it so I signed up. I've used Share Money before to send my dad money.

Issue with Share Money: I cannot send money to myself while I'm outside of the US. Can't be on VPN because their system will detect that I'm on VPN and won't allow me to submit but if I log off VPN, then the system knows I'm outside of the US so it doesn't allow me to send myself money. I called their tech support and was to;d I can only send money while in the US.

Issue with Wise: I need to send the money to a Vietnamese bank which I don't currently have and not sure if I qualify or not. Even when I do open a bank account, not sure if I will run into the same issue as Share Money where I cannot send money while outside of the US.

I know there are a few other transfer services but what service are 做厙輦⑹s using other than bank to bank wire since I currently don't have a bank account.

Thanks!

Hi,

Can't speak abt shatemoney or wise, but if you know anyone with a Vietnamese bank account, I'd ask to send it via them, if you have any trusted sources.

Western Union works well and fast, but the fees are anotjer matter. However, I've used WU to send from outside to VN and within under an hr it could be withdrawn.

Speaking of opening a bank account. Not sure how easy it is these days, usually requires an employer or the right paper work (TRC, WP or investor docs...). However, my personal experience with Dong A and Sacom bank are quite ok. Foreign banks like HSBC can be a nightmare, as they always block your acc when either your TRC, WP or labor contract expire (they block it up to 1 month ahead!).

While Dong A and Sacom bank, once you have an acc, it seems they just keep it activated forever, you can pay in or withdraw regardless what your status is.

Just fyi...

Just try SKRILL. I have tried from India. Check your country whether they allow or not. Thanks

@snake77 Thanks for the info!

@pravin8347 Thanks but I don't think I need another bank card. I already have 3 I can use to pull money from my bank without fees.

i use Wise, can transfer money into Wise via internet banking from Australian accounts and covert to VND at respectable rates. (while in SAIGON) . Can also transfer vnd to a Vietnamese account for modest fees. ($15/A$1000 approx) Only thing I can't do is add cash into Wise here in VN but for me that is not a real problem.

Wise works ok for smaller amounts.

@Rick Hayward Thank you but I think I'm going to just use my Charles Schwab ATM card and pull out money every month. Found a bank that allow me to take out 5 mil at a time without any fees. TPBank didn't charge me any fees the last time I withdrew cash from its ATM. Luckily I walk by that ATM almost every day.

I use Vietcombank and I have never been charged any ATM fee except from this new Korean bank, I can't think of the name of it, but it begins with an S and the logo is blue.
