Hello jessicadosramosmu.

Will you be in Nam Dinh city proper, or in a smaller village of Nam Dinh province?

Nam Dinh city (Link) just last month. You might want to reach out to them for confirmation of English language services.

You mentioned in your post, "...my partner works there...". As Vietnam does not recognise common-law relationships to be marriages, I assume you've researched the visa requirements for both yourself and your child. If not "legally" married there will be restrictions on your length of stay here (currently 90 days).

Fell free to ask any further questions you might have. Nice to have you with us.

Hi good question I believe the city as my partner has just signed for the football team. Many thanks for the information re the new general hospital, I was wondering if there were any private hospitals specifically that I could pay for as I am worried about the language barrier.

hi Jessica - Aiden’s point on visas is important - normally for a partner to get a temporary resident card, they must provide a marriage certificate. healthcare is a tricky issue, unlike most other se Asian countries it’s main healthcare system is public, not private (so is like the UK), but language is a major issue.

Hi Jessica,

In general, the closer you are to a big city, the better the level of English spoken at private and public hospitals.

it helps to differentiate between your needs for non-emergency and urgent care vs. long-term care that might require surgery and hospitalization.

The very best ultimate recommendation for English-speaking foreigners in the greater Hanoi City area is , but you will definitely pay premium prices for receiving care there.

if you are planning to use health insurance, you'll need to explore which facilities will honor your coverage and which will require payment upfront.

Please don't make the mistake of equating English language fluency with medical care proficiency.

It's totally possible to find a Doctor who is fluent in English and absolutely incompetent.

I recommend waiting until you get yourself situated and you know more about your specific neighborhood and the surrounding area.

You can then find a place to set up your routine care, while also checking out what your options will be should you ever need to go to a major medical center.

Cheers!
