Home Security Camera Suggestions Recommendations Tips

Aidan in HCMC

Recent events have prompted me to install a home security system. I'll post the details of those events when (if!) I manage to compose myself.

I've never had a system in any of the homes I've lived in. What I'm wanting is a weatherproof camera (or two) with remote control, recording both video and sound capability, infrared night vision, motion tracking, and if possible a bright LED spotlight which can be turned on/off remotely.

Suggestions, recommendations, tips would be greatly appreciated. I'll be installing it myself.

My wife installed one at her parents' Qu廕τg Ng瓊i farmhouse.

I'll see if I can get specifics from her.

She checks it on her iPhone from here in N廕登g (over 2 hours away)

(edit)

She monitors it through the "IMOU" app, and she thinks that's also the brand of the camera system.

there is one camera that rotates 360簞 and is motion/voice activated.

She paid about 1,600,000 VN for "the best model"

Looks just like what I need. TY for that.

Headed to Duong Dong shortly to see whether it's readily available here on the island, and to check in to see whether Le Capitaine has returned.

Hello, this is depending on how many you need, the environment and the area to cover, and of course the local market. For something domestic to cover distances no longer than 12m, and less than 6 cameras: the IMOU cameras are perfect enough according to your listed features. For bigger projects you should consider Hikvision. All of these are easy to install if you are not scared to work in a ladder

Couldn't find the IMOU brand suggested, OB, but I found something very similar. (Link to Tapo US site), a product of TPLink.

I purchased two, at ~850K each. Both are now installed at the top of 3.5 meter (~12 ft) support columns, and fitted both with 64GB cards. Easy installation/setup, the only tedious part being running power from the house out to the cameras. Had to solder extensions to the DC adapter wall-wart, then run it out under the facia of the house, then across the roof beams. Cut/painted/installed custom mounting brackets.

Looks very good.

I've enable, remotely, the red LED power indicator light on the face of the cameras to alert people to their presence.

Everything is working flawlessly, though I wish the spotlights were a little brighter. Microphone is very sensitive, and the speaker for voice transmission works well enough that the dogs recognise their names when I call them through it. GF says the auto-tracking is spooky, as it follows her as she walks through the garden.

I hope it's an effective deterrent.

Thanks for that. I'm very new at home security options.

I'll be adding 3 more cameras very soon. That'll give me full 360 degree coverage of the exterior and property.

No problem with ladders. For now, anyway, I'm still spry

With that Frontline of defense, you could also use a Micky Mouse brand and your 4 guardians do the rest
