How to bring your mid to large size dogs to the DR

Nick Boork

The time is getting closer to our move to the DR. My wife Yngris and I are looking forward to retiring in Santiago. No travel dates yet but we're concerned about getting our dogs there with us. Anyone have experience that could provide some pointers? Did some research and American Airlines only currently allows small dogs that can travel with you in the cabin. This rules out our dogs Blessing & Agape as both are mid-sized 35 lbs plus.  Thanks in advance for any tips.

Contact Cody... he owns CWEL Transport. He is a licensed transporter so he can take your dog on the plane, in the cabin with just their leash. They lay on the floor at his feet. Since you have 2, he will need a second person. You can either go with him, or he will get an assistant to go with him. You can contact him through Facebook at

He has done many trips to DR with all size dogs.

Contact American Airlines Cargo and . This is a separate company from the airline, but it uses the same flights, so that you can fly with your dog. We used them to bring our 25-pounder down in late 2020.

Cody was amazing.  We used his service last year for our 2 dogs (American Staffordshire Terrier and Shih tzu).

I'm assuming from US.  The USDA paper work is only good for 7 days.  Animal all in one shipping agencies are expensive.  Try to do it yourself.  Ship cargo from Atlanta or Miami.  We are planning to rent a van one way to Atlanta and ship cargo from there.
