MagicCalling to the USA

WRM

Does anybody have experience using their US cell phone to call the US from DR using wifi calling or Magic Jack App? I am trying to figure out if I could keep my USA number while in DR for couple of months. But do not want to get hit with excessive roaming charges. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

We use our MJ all of the time and have the same phone number for the last 45 years.  It works great in the DR and we actually use it where ever we travel world wide.

Bob K,

Thank you for the feedback.

Depends on what plan you have but I have Verizon.  I keep my phone on airplane mode and make calls, text, message and use the web all via wifi.  If you don't have wifi where you live it's cheaper to get it than getting hit with $10US per day which is what verizon charges for using the phone.  Or they have wifi at just about every restuarant and bar now adays so it's really easy to just pop in, order a drink and juse the wifi for an hour or so.

I'm in the DR for six months and I'm a sales person with my client base all over the world so I've got to have phone service and this works really well for me except sometimes the phone calls don't ring through but go straight to voice mail.  Then I just listen to the message and call whomever back.

Good luck.

Excellent! Thank you for your feedback. Now I have it all figured out. I also plan to get the portable hotspot from Claro as plan B. It gives you 5G for $38/mo. Have you tried it?
