Health care eligibility

FrauSchlau

Good day,

A brand new member here - my apologies if this question has been asked/answered here before.

I am an EU citizen looking to move Austria to retire. I will not be working, I will not be claiming a pension (for which I am obviously not eligible, as I never worked or paid taxes in the EU), I will live off savings/investments taxed in the country where I currently live (that has the double-taxation avoidance treaty with Austria).

My question: how can I become eligible for healthcare in Austria upon moving there? Is there an annual fee that everyone pays through taxes or - in cases like mine - separately? Is there perhaps a connection between healthcare cost contributions and real estate tax (as I may choose to buy an apartment rather than rent one)?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

No, never followed up. The current situation in/around Europe has changed, too. Am reevaluating my options.
