Foreigners buying property in Belgium

kezz

Hi all.

I'm a Nigerian with an F card, married to a Belgian. Can we buy a house together assuming we both have good steady jobs and income. My husband is of the opinion that I can only be allowed to buy properties if i have Nationality. I think he's wrong that my F card gives me enough rights to buy a house together with him. Am I right?.

Hello, if you can buy a house cash there is no problem at all. If you need a mortgage there are 2 conditions to obtain a mortgage as a foreign person :

  1. you have to have your residence in Belgium (which is the case for you)
  2. your salary has to be paid in euros

Always best to ask an appointment at a bank. One of the best banks in Belgium for obtaining a mortgage as an °µÍø½ûÇø is KBC.

Thanks so much Marleen for your input. Yes, I have resident permit for 5 years. The issue is that my husband thinks I won't be able to co sign a mortgage with my Fcard.

Hi there.

There is no restrictions. You can easily buy a property ,unless your mortgage is approved. Many cases they are checking your regular income (bruto salary) and according that calculation given an amount of credit for buying property :)

Wish you good luck to have it .

Hello,

I have A-card. I wanted to buy an apartment after being in belgium for 2 years in a work permit. I was working on a CDI contract. I went to ALL banks here in Belgium asking for mortgage. Most of them refused because I don't hold a permanent residency. :(

I don't know if things changed now. that was 3 years ago.

now I'm about to complete 5 years and get the permanent residency. I will immediately purchase a home. I already had enough time to search and learn about real-estate in Belgium.

good luck

You don't need a permanent residency to get a mortgage. For example, KBC provides mortgage for A-card holders who meet their requitements.

How don’t you get it banks is private business .. if ur finance data is good they give loan even to refugee lol … its pure calculations … you put ur own 20-30% and that’s it they don’t care

Go and try again. And use KBC like most are suggesting.
