Commune not allowing to apply for Belgium Residence Card Type B

RSBel
Hi All,

I have completed 5 years in Belgium in Jan-2022. I went to commune to apply for Belgium Residence Card Type B but commune is not accepting the application. They are saying you will automatically get the letter from ministry to come and apply for Type B card when you fulfill all the conditions.

I am not sure what to do now, can anyone please suggest how can I apply for Type B card?

Hi,

Go to commune some other time and talk with another person.

They will respond if you apply for Type L card.

Why are you asking this if you are a Beligum citizen?

@RSBel

Indeed, communes no longer allow you to apply for B card. Though, it should be automatically issued to you at next card renewal (check expiry date on current resident card).

If you don't want to wait till expiry of your current RP, you can apply for L card instead. L card is actually better than B card in many ways.

Where/How to apply L card?

@rsreeu :

If you have completed 5 continuous years in Belgium, you can go to commune to apply card L. The commune will give you the list of documents required.

ok Thanks you.

L card is the new name of D card?

Or D card also exist and they introduced new category called 'L' card?
