Any help for EU Nationals in Bulgaria

jamieshiny38

Are there any NGO's or any Immigrant help groups for foreigners in Bulgaria?

I just recently moved to Black Sea side in Bulgaria and I experience a lot of discrimination and hostality here. In fact, I haven't seen or heard of any foreigners living here other than Ukrainians and Russians.

I have been excluded from the employment market. No matter where I apply ,I hear it's too difficult for non-Bulgarian Nationals to work here. And the locals say into your face that just Ukrainians and Russians are welcomed. If you ask for help, they turn their back on you. You can't even talk about it with anyone here. I have been scammed now and run out of money. And I am terrorized and bullied at my place.

What languages do you speak? Do you speak Bulgarian?

I am puzzled by this post, @jamieshiny38, as your profile says you are a Bulgarian in Malta. Did you make a mistake setting up your profile?

I'm sorry you are experiencing discrimination and difficulty finding a job. Sadly there's nationalism across all of Europe. Language issues may have something to do with it if you aren't a fluent Bulgarian speaker. The job market is difficult everywhere.

Excuse me, but who died? I've been here for a month and I've never had such a permit. I'm Swiss and will learn Bulgarian, which should be normal. What country are you from? Sorry, but who would come to Bulgaria to work when the wages are so low? I don't understand.

Huh? I was asking Jamie a simple question. Do they speak the local language. If they don't, then that might be the trouble in finding work.

I'm British, not sure what's that got to do with anything.

And to get a job, you have to speak Bulgarian, which is normal. In your country, it would be so difficult or impossible to find a job without the local language.

I am trying to understand the picture with @jamieshiny3, read the first post.

What kind of job you are looking for? Some require speaking Bulgarian, others don't (in Plovdiv there are call centres that hire speakers of foreign languages).

I have been here for 7 years, and never experienced serious hostility. Discrimination is another matter. I have trouble opening a bank account, for example, precisely because I was born in Russia (even though I have never been a russian citizen). But that's the Bulgarian banks...
