MEU2 replacement

pete21

My wifes MEU2 runs out shortly.  What documentation is required to allow her to remain longer in country?

She is not British, nor an EU citizen and received the meu2 when I received an MEU1 prior to full BREXIT.   My MEU1 has no end date on it, so remains valid infinitum but she was only given 6 years on her MEU2, hence the need to get new residency.

Anyone have knowledge on what she needs to do and if her renewing will force me to get the new non EU residency document?

I think you will need to replace your meu1 at some stage as they will force it by mid to late 2026.. better to be ahead of the game as it will be problematic without the biometric card as services migrate to the system especially on entry and exit amongst many other beaurocratic things...... your wifes meu2 is likely to be dependant on the validity of your meu1 as a family member of an EU member when that was valid ... Alas not now ..... Brexit changed all of that so replacement is a better option I assume as your meu1 will be replaced with the mukw1 or 3 and this should give you the protection's relating to the withdrawal agreement ... Best talk to an immigration specialist would be my advice

NB altho your existing meu1 is still valid and will remain so as a legal residency document they cant ever change that but it may well cause you problems without it being of a biometric nature with a knock on effect and impact on your wife's ability to stay beyond the expiry of her meu2. We all know how changeable and unpredictable whoever deals with your applications can be....

Looks pretty straightforward Pete.

:-

The MEU2 is a residency permit in Cyprus that is valid for five years. After this period, it must be renewed to maintain legal residency status in the country. The renewal process involves submitting a new application, along with any updated documentation or information that may be required.

It’s important to note that the MEU2 is only valid as long as the conditions for which it was issued remain true. For example, if the permit was issued based on the applicant’s status as an employee, and the applicant changes their employment status or leaves the country, the permit may no longer be valid. In such cases, it’s important to seek legal advice on how to proceed.

To renew or extend the MEU2, applicants must submit a new application at least two months prior to the expiration of the current permit. The renewal process may involve additional documentation or information, so it’s important to allow sufficient time for processing.

Perhaps a quick chat with an immigration specialist might reduce possible stress?

thanks all for the info.  Sounds as though I need to get cracking soon then!  We have always used private health insurance so I never bothered enquiring about GESY. Any idea if that will be an issue?

Can anyone recommend an immigration specialist, ideally in the Paralimni area?

One thing i am concerned about is that i have not been keeping money in a local bank because of the terrible interest rates and the advent of Revolut. Are they requiring large sums in local banks for renewal of residency?

Yours should be a simple exchange. Am not 100% sure what the requirements might be for renewal of your wife's residency.

Their is an outfit who have a good reputation in your area. . I can't remember the name but am sure I have posted it before on the forum
