Buying Property with a Personal Loan?

Hi all,

Has anyone ever bought a home (specifically Italy, but Europe generally would help) with or partly with a personal loan? The internet is full of information saying it is possible, but when you actually look at T&Cs, most lenders forbid it. Has anyone done this? Who did you borrow form?

As I'm sure you all know, getting a mortgage for an overseas home can be tricky, especially for a cheap, small apartment. A short term, smaller loan is much more feasible. Obviously cash is ideal, but I want to hear other options and experiences. Thanks so much!
