Import tax on white goods and furniture

Rocking Ken

Hi All,

Would we be subjected to import tax on our goods that we are brining with us from the UK.

My wife has 3 or 4 rather expensive sewing machines, I have all my diving gear and tools and then there is all the white goods we are brining as well as some furniture.

Many thanks..

Sweet... another question then, what would be best brought across from the UK that is hard to get in Malta, not thinking of starting a black market :)

georgeingozo

much less than a few years ago, especially Amazon UK/Ger/Italy deliver cheaply many items to Malta, but large items like fridge, freezer, washing machine, sofas etc are worth considering

large TV

ditto GnG.....these items are expensive here - almost double in many cases...

georgeingozo

however, there is a thriving market in 2nd hand items, and there seem to be a lot of foreigners leaving Malta right now, so lots of cheap items for sale

Rocking Ken

Just brought a new TV from Comet as they were in a sale £169 for a 32" or £249 for 40" :)

Toon

am trying to find a 55 inch smart but theyre too damned expensive here and nobody will deliver anything above 32in to malta

georgeingozo

What would a tv that size weigh?

Toon

not sure - as it would be a led unit and this much lighter than say a lcd or plasma.....i wil need to check it out

georgeingozo

Maltapost posting service might be worth it. 20kg is about 100-120 €

georgeingozo

Boxit or something like that charge based on volume, and ship by container so slower. However, not sure on insurance for item like this

For some reason technical goods seem to be more expensive in Malta than in Italy. There must be an additional tax or something.

I've been eyeing the new iPads and they're cheaper abroad.

just a matter of Malta being a very small market
