Hi MarkS,

Welcome to the forum.

The Permanent Resident Scheme is suspended at the moment.

So that leaves the ordinary residence. You can apply for under different categories ( work permit, economic self-sufficiency,retirement and so on) and certain conditions apply as to health insurance, income and renting/buying property.

Which you choose depends on your personal circumstances.

I have assumed that you hold a UK passport. If not things are more difficult.

The Permanent Residence Scheme will probably be resumed with changed conditions sometime in the future so it might still be interesting for you in 12 months time.

Hello Markshutt
Malta is nice and you are on the way of making an important decision :)
try to copy/paste this link in your browser to have a better idea between both statuses : ccmalta.com/getattachment/publications/A-Guide-to-Moving-to-Malta/CC---Moving-to-Malta.pdf.aspx , I am not doing any promotion for the company though.
Also there might be few changes in few weeks, so read it as an informative support only and keep visiting the forum as we keep it always updated.
Good Luck :)

Hi MS,

Ok ....if you are going to work in Malta then you will have ordinary residence and the ordinary high tax rate if you have a large income -)))

But the Maltese sun is free of charge.
