Driving test for uk driver

deborahandmark14

Hi

my dad is a resident of portugal but for over 2 years and is over 90. He can get a medical certificate but will need to take a practical test. Can anyone tell me a bit about the test and what is involved please?  Is it in English?  Can he use his own car?  (Even if it is right hand drive)

many thanks

I took the test not long ago and as far as I know the practical test is only in Portuguese (but he can bring an interpreter). I drove around for about 30 minutes with the examiner in the front passenger seat and following his instructions. Had to execute all kinds of maneuvers.

Not sure about the car that can be used, you'd have to ask that at IMT. But I really wouldn't think he can use a right-hand drive for the test.

Hi Deborah, you will have to ask IMT if he will have to take a written test first (which would be in portuguese) or not as I am not sure about that. As for the actual driving test, under E.U. Law he can have a translator in the back seat, just for the traslation only. Good luck with IMT as they are the slowest, most inefficient car and driver registration authority in Europe.
