So.. about the price when renting:a) room - in Ljubljana (capital town) single room from (150-250€),room for two persons (from 90€ up), b) renting an apartment from (250€ up), renting a house (from 2500€ up)... All prices are per month.
Renting in other cities is much cheaper (here are not included places that are conected with tourism, for example see side cities like Piran, Portoro and koper - the prices here are higher)

Buying an apartment in Ljubljana will cost you from 120.000€ (about 60 square m)... More about the prices on: (option: english language - this is the main slovenian place when searching for flats, rooms, houses...)

Public transportation in Ljubljana: you will need to get a plastic card called "urbana" (because you can not buy ticket at bus drivers seat) and fill it with an amount of money you want... you can buy it at the main bus station Ljubljana (providers company name LPP) Prices are the same (coridor 1 price is 1.2€ in one direction - for this price you will be able to go around whole Ljubljana city - outside Ljubljana begins coridor 2...). Monthly card is about 25€ and is cheaper for childeren and students.
In other (smaller cities) the average price for one direction ride is 0.5€ (you do not need any card outside Ljubljana, you can pay with money).
Train prices are different - from to where. You can go from one side of Slovenia to another one for up to 15€ (without discount).  usually price for one direction is cheaper. Students and children have cheaper monthly cards for trzin za rides..

Healthcare is free of charge for childrens and young adults unil 18 years old (or until 26 if they are students). Cost for adults is about 50€ per month. Healthcare system in Slovenia provides all visits at doctors free of charge (if you pay healtcare insurance 50€ every month).

One tank will cost you about 50€.

Bread (1kg) from 1€ up, rice (1kg) - from 0.8€, spagetthi (1kg) - from 0.9€.

Electricity/gas/water - house average cost: about 200€.

Internet providers: different providers means different prices - triple package (internet-phone+television) from 30€ up per month.

Lunch in Ljubljana: from 4€ up. Students get special students prices (2,63€ is given to every student meal by Slovenian goverment).

Coffee in Ljubljana (expresso from 0.90€), cheaper in other cities.

Cinema tickets: from 4€ up.

Gym: from 20€ per month up.

what is the best place to purchase ground coffee?

I am not sure what you mean by ground.. but if you are asking where to go for a coffee in ljubljana I would say Cacao (real center, near Preseren square). On the corner of congress square there is Zvezda coffee place. And near municipity you can find Vigo. This are by my opinion the best coffee places in Ljubljana (but the prices are a little bit higher).

basically what i mean is bean coffee the ones sold in bags since i am used to purchasing at starbucks i was wondering what is similar there

Try Cafetino, Ljubljana, they have different coffees in beans. It's a caffee but I saw they have also coffe in bags.
