Learning to drive on ESTA?

tjs2012

First of all, a big hello to everyone.

I have just come over to California from London and I am trying to find out some information about learning to drive in california.

I am over here on an Esta, I don't drive back home and was wondering if it would be possible for me to obtain a drivers license over here as not being able to drive here is a major set back and I am here for a few months so it would be handy.

If anyone knows more information about if it's possible and if it is; the steps for me to take to get the wheels in motion (excuse the poor pun... :) ) then it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You normally have to be a legal resident of California, or at least have a permanent address in California, to get a California Drivers license.

If you do not have a driver license from your home country (if you did, you could just drive using that if you are only going to be in California for a few months), you have to first be able to show legal presence in the US to get a California Drivers license. Then you need to complete the following:

Not sure about the SSN requirement in your case. You need to contact the DVM directly if that can be waved or not. You may also fall under the Limited Term Legal Presence allowance:

For details, again contact the DMV.
