Latest Malaria Guidelines for young children in Port Moresby

MoniqueCig

Hi,

My children who are 4 and 6 and I are due to fly in to Port Moresby on 15 September.  Can someone please give me some information on Malaria prevention for my children?  Do most people get their kids on anti-malaria tablet?  Is there a certain insect repellent that is safe on kids and also wards off the mosquitos?  Are mosquito nets needed over there??  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

birdies

Hi ya, my kids 10. 7, and 2 aren't on anti-malarials.  We just use aero-guard mozzie repellant and make sure the kids cover up.  We've been in Pom for 1 year now, and unfortunately I am the only one of us that has gotten malaria.  Bed nets are great - as long as you don't have a fan above the bed!!  But the flip side - is that mozzies don't like the breeze - so the fans stop them.  All our windows and doors in our compound have screens as well. If you go to mine and my wifes blogs (in the blog section here) and want to make contact - please do :)

cheers
