Uber in Brazil

Anekas

Hi,

I have been overcharged by Uber approximately 1 month ago. Uber costumer service keeps telling me that they will refund me but they have not done it yet. I have been waiting for the refund for more than 1 month.  It has been really fustrating.

Can anyone give me some advice of how to complaint against Uber?!

Many thanks,

Ana

How much money are you talking about ?

I am an Uber driver when I am in Canada, with 17,000 trips on the books.

The system preauthorizes the fare that you must accept first, and the driver cannot modify it.

Did you not show up for a trip and were charged a cancelation fee ? That is a legit charge if this is the case.

11/07/23  Hi, Ana.  Have you already followed these steps?  If so, Uber should have already either accepted or rejected your claim.  If not, you might want to give them a try:

@Anekas Did you pay with a credit card? if so dispute the charge with them. l

If the over-charge is less than R100, you need to consider what your time is worth.

Also, if the money went to the driver, do you really want to claw back a few bucks from someone who is probably just scraping by?

My 2 cents (and in Canada 2 cents gets rounded down)

@Anekas, how did Uber overcharge you?  Is the amount charged on your credit card different from the booked amount?  If this is the case, you can contest the charge using the booked amount as evidence.

The only case that I had to pay more than expected was when I had a business credit.  Uber / Lyft allows a business credit - but this credit expires and does not cover tips.  When this happened to me, I thought that I could use the credit for the ride but the ride was charged to my credit card.  After further investigation , I found out that the credit that I planned on using had expired - hence no refund for me.

Hope that this helps.

Good luck.

Hi all!

Thank you for replying.

I have been overcharged after cancelling an Uber. I was waiting for the Uber longer than 40minutes. The driver kept telling me that she was on her way to pick me up. She was telling me she was only a few minutes away. However, she wouldn't get any closer.

I was charged 150 reais. Then, I had to pay another driver on top of this to take me to my destiny. I have contacted Uber costumer service several times since this incident. Uber keeps telling me that I am entitled to a full refund. They only charged my credit card to verify it was working well. However, I have been waiting longer than 30 days for the refund, and they still didn't refund the money.

The Uber app also stopped working since this incident which never happened before.

My credit card has been working very well anywhere else. It is not out of date.

Any suggestions?!

Contact your C/C and dispute the charge. If you are a world traveler, you would know that you should have done this on day one.

I doubt your story 100%..........I've used UBER over 200 times in Rio de Janeiro, and the maximum cancelation fee if you book a reservation in advance, and cancel the trip, is R$60.........if you cancel an on demand trip, it was R$20...........

The fact that this website received two similar posts yesterday, with obscure and irrelevant information, is indicative of a spam campaign.

@Anekas, I have been charged cancellation fees before and it's hard to dispute that because it becomes an argument between driver and passenger - and both the reputations of the passenger and the driver are considered here before a refund is made.

I am not making an excuse for Uber but there are possible reasons for the delay:

a) there are possible data protection rights between Europe and Brazil that don't allow sharing of your information between the Uber operations in Brazil and UK,

b) there may be some legal right to pay the driver in this circumstance and this was done,

c) your app not being operational at that time or part of that time may contribute to the argument that the driver attempted to contact you without success.

In all cases, the best way to argue for the refund is to bring up your uber (hopefully spotless) reputation as a rider to bear here as you obviously did not intend to defraud Uber.  If you can print your Uber usage report outside Brazil and attach this to your refund claim with that explanation, this should be a simple decision for any customer support manager to green light a refund.

After all, R150 is not much to keep a customer happy.  However, I am learning that the cogs of the Brazilian bureaucracy tend to move slowly - so you may need to be patient....  Brazil does not move at hora ingles.

Looks like your case is a confluence of very unlikely circumstances - a very unique case - that merits a manager to jump in and make a decision.

Good luck.

Hi again,

It was just to say that Uber has agreed to 100 per cent cancellation refund from day one. Actually, the money they took from my bank account was just to check my card was working. This money should have been returned almost straight away. However, they have not transferred the money yet. I have been waiting just over one month. My case has already been transferred to the managers twice. First time 3 weeks ago. However, I have not heard from the managers yet. I think they should at least be able to explain why it is taking so long.

@Anekas, my apologies for my previous responses as I was under the mistaken impression that you were traveling from the UK but you are living in Brazil.

Regarding delays in getting things sorted out, so many °µÍø½ûÇøs on the forum have expressed frustrations with the slowness of how things happen in Brazil.  I suspect that this is one of the examples.

Asking why it is taking so long from both Uber and the bank may shed some light.

Good luck.

Don't expect any refunds from Uber. It is a stalling tactic to promise something they will never ever deliver.

Consider getting yourself a steady taxicab.

Uber, as a corporate entity, is insolvent.

You've been had.
