Any "UUs" in medellin?

plzdnr

Hi! My partner and I are planning to move to Medellin around June. We're retired and looking forward to the adventure. We are hoping to find °µÍø½ûÇøs who share our more liberal views. We have been active in our local Unitarian Universalist church and would hope to find other "UUs" or similarly open minded people, eg Quakers.

Frankly you will be hard pressed to find your UUA church here in Medellin if not at all an impossible task.

I have traveled everywhere in Colombia for 35 years, spoken to thousands of Colombians and tourists, walked/explored every city and pueblo and Caribbean island, attended various Christian and non-denominational churches here in Colombia and living the past15 years in Medellin and I have never come across a UUA gathering.

I have a basic grasp of the teachings and beliefs of UUA, no judgement as we are all on our path to find truth and meaning, and in Colombia it simply does not align itself with traditional Catholic teaching, now to further the problem the °µÍø½ûÇøs that flock to places like Medellin tend to be more conservative in beliefs, again I have met and have had discussions with ten thousand °µÍø½ûÇøs and visitors over the years and as recently as yesterday in my walks in centro Medellin.........

........... yes you will find English speaking gatherings of Christian churches in Medellin, many of them started by °µÍø½ûÇøs (Greater Grace of Medellin and the like) but certainly have never ever....not ONCE in 35 years traveling Colombia have I met a Quaker, a Muslim yes as there is a well established Mosque and Muslim community located in Maicao, La Guajira called Omar Iban Al-Khattab Maicao, next to the border of Venezuela.

Just where in Medellin are you planning to move to?

Frankly speaking El Pablado is the Beverly Hills of Medellin (or think of Las Vegas Nevada) and with it comes everything contrary to the traditional/conservative even lib leanings as it is filled with commercialism, money, sex trade, drugs use and abuse, nightlife and in some area such as Park Lleras of Poblado it's nothing short of a modern day "Sodom and Gomorra" so choose wisely.

I am sure some will take offense to my comments but I speak with free-ness of mind and thought.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your candid response. Your comments about the culture match our observations, yet we hope that there are few °µÍø½ûÇøs who may be looking for similarly open minded friends. We're planning to rent in el poblado but will move if not to our liking. Your forewarnings regarding the barrio will be kept in mind.  Many thanks!!
