Tourist trip 180 noncontinuous days in Ecuador

mattmax

Hello all, has this scenario come up for anyone? Wanted to get your thoughts before contacting immigration directly.

Scenario:

As a US tourist, I want to stay 90 days in Ecuador, then 90+ days outside of Ecuador, then 90 days in Ecuador for a total of 180 days in Ecuador during a 365 day period. Is this possible?

Work-around:

Since the day count stops during the first 90-day period, then I'd need to leave Ecuador say around day 85, spend my 90+ days outside of Ecuador, then immediately upon returning to Ecuador (days 86-89) apply for the 90 day extension.

Questions:

Will immigration allow me into the country with only a couple of days left of my original 90 day authorization in order to apply for the extension?

Can i only apply for the 90 extension in person within Ecuador, or can I also apply for it online while outside of Ecuador before returning?

Look forward to hearing your ideas!
