Most airline tickets are non-refundable, unless you specifically buy refundable tickets, which are priced a good bit higher (like 50%-100% higher).

I thought the standard time for rescheduling was a year, but I imagine that differs among airlines, and maybe it's a year from the purchase date of the ticket.

I've heard of airlines giving a break where serious illness is involved, but that's discretionary on their part. I'm afraid you're out of luck, unless somebody else has contrary knowledge.

All true Bob, especially the "at their discretion" part, for I know of a case of the death of the person's mother, and all the paperwork in the world still meant zero refund.  Might have to sell them on e-bay.

Thanks folks.  Just about what I expected to hear but I always hope for the best and expect the worst.  Makes life easier to deal with.  Bob--I understood the same thing about a years grace to rebook but I quess that is another myth all shot to hell  as I booked my flights in early November.  Still haven't dealt with Air Canada for that portion of my trip.

Mugtech...don't even think you can sell the tickets as they come in one persons name, only.  Wonder if anyone has tried that. Probably cost half the ticket price to get them to change the name over.

Check the ticketing rules, but I think most say 'non-transferable'.
