Ordering books online - ship to Vietnam..?

jtodter

My grandchildren, 7 and 11, are moving to Vietnam soon from Australia.  They are very keen readers.  Anyone know online book places that ship to Vietnam?

You can buy English books here. There are a bit more expensive but I think you will pay more for customs.

The books stores that we have been in around HCMC have books in English.

Hello jtodter,

Welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø 1f601.svg

Thank you for asking your question here.

@EtonHouse, has a very good point. The custom price might be high.

Where exactly are they going to live? Maybe members will be able to give you some recommendations on where to buy English books.

Cheers,

Plus, any print materials arriving through the postal system are subject to government censorship.

I would recommend that the OP seriously consider finally making the break (at least partially) from print books to eBooks

Interesting. When I flew in I had several boxes of books I included in my luggage - nothing was ever said or even opened for inspection. I guess I got lucky...but it did cost me a small fortune to fly them in.

Another reason forum members often recommend bringing personal belongings into the country in accompanied baggage.

Not that it's a foolproof method, as everything brought into the country is subject to search, seizure and duty, plus penalties.

However, customs enforcement is notoriously much stricter when utilizing the postal system.

Which bookstore is best in VN?

I couldn't get Amazon to send to Vietnam. I was able to order some books from Powells Books in Portland, USA. Postage was a little spendy, but I didn't pay customs.

This is how I would do it. Did it for my gf in Vietnam. Get a Kindle fire tablet, Download and install LIBBY app from the app store. In Australia, go to a local library, get library card and check out eBooks with the Libby app on Kindle fire tablet. Note. Not all libraries offer online eBooks. All are free, also you can check out movies/videos. Good luck.
