With that site ( and many other sites) do check the age of the listing. It's a useful site, but think they scrape the listings from other sites and don't have any direct contact with the owners.

This is true for a number of online property sites. Listings may be very out of date, and some properties either in much worse condition than shown or already sold, sometimes years before. I found this a lot while we were looking, unfortunately. Not all sites do it, but there are a few that do. Before setting your heart on a property you haven't seen, always ask how old the photos are.

Exactly what Jane says...if the site has the ability to filter when the ad was listed best to use that. Some have very old ads at "old" prices.

Many property broker's sites simply pirate other broker's properties, hence the habit of "watermarking" photos with the original agency's name/logo.  If they get a bite, they contact the original agency and offer them the prospect in exchange for a cut of the commission; of course, they have no way of knowing if the property sells at any time - and can't be bothered to take the old bait out of the water - so the ads can indeed still be running many years later, regardless of whether it's been sold long before or now has a new, higher price.

What your view on Imot or Alo etc?

JimJ

The problem is, of course, that "affordable" to a buyer is often synonymous with "given away" to a seller.  It's clear that the smart would-be immigrant should be looking elsewhere these days: EU-candidate countries like Albania (need to be quick there), Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina still have plenty of cheap properties, although the markets there are starting to gain quite a bit of buoyancy.  Getting in before they join the EU (and no doubt the Eurozone later on) would be a wise move, in my view; if I were somewhat more young and had some spare cash gathering derisory interest in a bank account I'd certainly take a punt....

They're fine.  Some of the ads are old (and many are withdrawn and then re-listed to look new) but they're among the sources worth looking at.  I haven't looked on eBay lately, but there used to be a lot of stuff on there. The FB Property ads have some very tempting offers if your budget doesn't dictate a rock-bottom price; you'd save quite a bit by buying a renovated place from a disillusioned foreigner or someone up-/down-sizing, as long as you don't let your enthusiasm blind you to the signs of camouflaged defects of various kinds..

VillageLife

Hahah agreed. Bargains potentially to be had from buying off other foreigners (who might not be fully clued up on recent price rises) and just want to get rid of their house.

JimJ

@VillageLife

I suspect that most are clued-up - but if you HAVE to sell, then you'll settle for what you can get in your particular time-frame...however hard a hit you have to take.  I've been the beneficiary of such a scenario, so I can certainly vouch for their existence! 😀
