Hello,

Which city are you planning to live? There's different attorneys depending of the city.

The rules have changed recently, and you no longer need a lawyer to apply.
The easiest way is to check out which documents you need prior to travelling here, have them all duly legalised before yu leave home, and come!
You receive a 3-month visitor's visa on arrival, renewable for a urther 3 months, and then can be extended for 6 months provided you commit to apply for a permanent residency visa during that time.
This new system has been in place since May 2012.  No lawyer's fees, just direct contact with the Immigration service here..........and I'm speaking from personal experience.  with my wife we obtained our visas for permanent residency with no legal help or costs.  and the personnel in the immigration office were very helpful on each of our visits.  We are in Manta, but the new rule is of course applied everywhere.

forgot one thing, you will need a legalised document to prove  your retirement income.  this must be minimum US$800/month, plus $100/month per dependant.
