Wood worm treatment

Kath948381

How often do we need to spray  wood worm killer in our village house ?  We did it every year until last year but husband has seen an adult bug this year in our downstairs area and I saw and killed one a couple of weeks ago in the same general area.

I don't know for sure but if you see active bugs that's a good sign a treatment is due.

Thank you Jane we've just seen two this year down in the basement so we've started to paint on the stuff we used before.  When we bought the house many years ago  and the corridor in the basement had been covered in ply wood on the ceiling so we removed it and got someone in to spray but I don't and didn't have much confidence in the English Master builder and his lackey. So we have don't it ourselves since then but not for the last couple of years.

Dear all, firstly look for fresh wood dust either around the holes in the wood or on the floor or ledges. If found that’s a clear indicator that the treatment has failed. Treatments normally last 1-3 years depending on levels of external exposure.

If dust is found treat again concentrating on any holes making sure to soak them, often if live still the critter will crawl out and die. Obviously older timbers may have deep holes and tunnels which the treatment is missing , but just keep reapplying and in the end they will be eradicated.

take care ozzy
