At last after weeks of very very hot sunshine today it rained in our village and most welcome it was. Have you had any respite?

Up here we get some real mountain downpours and we've had plenty throughout the summer. The road outside turns into a torrent, which deposits a thick covering of gravel and soil washed down from the forest.

Our Greek neighbours have some beautiful trees, which unfortunately have now grown right over our terrace at second storey level and are touching our roof. They drop leaves straight into our gutters and block the downpipes, resulting in waterfalls cascading down the walls when it rains, and our terrace being covered with flowers/rotten fruit/fallen leaves; as well as being beautiful, the trees are illegal, and can become dangerous, and the neighbours have promised a couple of times to trim them back but have done nothing. We don't want to cause a Neighbours From Hell scenario, but it's getting ridiculous now and I may have to get the municipality involved. They'll issue a notice to comply with the law, which will be a LOT more drastic (and expensive) than the simple cutting-back that I've asked for, involving felling the ones that are too close and drastically cropping those too close to/over the boundary wall.

Some things are the same everywhere!
