I only know of people with experience in strawbale building in the northeast of Bulgaria, not the west. There's a Facebook group, Talking Natural Building, that has some active members living in Bulgaria. That might be a good place to look.

Thank you janemulberry for your advice. We are open for anybody who can help us.

You can consult the following it may help

janemulberry

That was one I was thinking of. Susan Hagan in Hotnitsa also is very involved in natural building, mainly cob, though she also travels a lot outside Bg so I'm not sure she's doing consultation work any more. That's more the higher level stuff - helping with the planning stages rather than hands on lugging bales and cob. You may find she or someone from Strawworks or a similar company in the UK, US, or Europe, are willing to lead a workshop on your build, which is one way to get a build done. Inexpert workers, led by an expert, can produce good results.

Another way to get actual hands-on workers may be to use a site like Workaway. Example here: Though you would be expected to provide accommodation and food for the volunteers.

This site (associated with the Facebook group I mentioned yesterday) might be useful, too:

Isn't this post about someone looking for strawbale construction? You may do better starting a new post, as you're looking for something different - different building style, different region.

bulgaria57

Thank you paganini1 I will contact them.

Many thanks janemulberry for all this information. My husband is a professional builder. He has already built many houses out of straw bales here in Bulgaria. Therefore, we are just looking for helpers who can do a decent day of work. It would also be great if someone had experience in construction. Unfortunately, less and less people interested in physical work here.
For the Facebook group that you sent me link I still waiting for approval to join the group.
On the site Workaway we had also set up profile, but no answer yet.

Hi,

it is an interesting post indeed. However, it does not specify what exactly you need - a worker, or a trainee.

In your case there are 2 basic options to quickly get the "helpers" your husband needs:

1. Search for workers, make a job ad, write down the daily payment. Whit this done, you can post the ad at the state Unemployment service and quickly find the necessary people.

2. Organize it as a seminar/training - "free of charge" but only for the first 10 people enrolled. Tell them you will train those people how to construct straw bale houses, eco friendly houses, and how helpful and useful this will be for their future.

For the second approach you can use Facebook groups and target ECO enthusiasts ....

bulgaria57, as your husband has good experience with strawbale, sounds like organising a series of workshops yourselves might work. You need to provide food and shelter and accept you will get unskilled but enthusiatic workers, but you may even find people will pay you to work on your house, to learn before building their own. Though there are of course drawbacks - extra work supervising and providing teaching, and providing three meals a day plus some sort of shelter for the volunteers. Advertising for a sort of "apprentice" might work - someone willing to work at a lower pay to get a training in all aspects of strawbale construction.

Probably a mix of what kristiann suggested - paid workers and volunteers - will work out. You may not find anyone experienced in strawbale via the local unemployment office, so there will be issues with supervising and teaching going that route, too.

How has your husband managed to find workers for his other Bulgarian builds?

bulgaria57

Thank you kristiann for your advice. I haven't thought about the unemployment service, but I'll contact them.
My husband tried to organize training courses earlier, but without success. Here, in Bulgaria, there are not so many people who want to learn this kind of skills. As we used to live in one of the Western countries, so everything is different here. There you will definitely find people who would like to learn and participate to this type build. Here we can not find people to work for money, not saying voluntary work. :)

bulgaria57

Hello janemulberry. Thank you for your advice and help. My husband always had to find new team for every house he built. As it wasn't full time work, only project by project. This is why people didn't want to commit to it.
Training courses is a great idea, but people here are not interested in it. As we tried before.
Only I was hoping that maybe someone from 做厙輦⑹s would be interested.

I hope you can find a team from Kristiann's suggestion! The limited travel due to Covid is going to make it harder, because the best places to advertise the workshops would be the UK and US. Hoping when the Natural Building group let you in you can find some help there, too.

bulgaria57

I do agree with you, it is definitely hard for people travel today's days :( . I really hope to find at least one person. Thank you for all your support. Regards. Natallia
